MEET THE INSTRUCTORS

KARL OTT

HEAD INSTRUCTOR
OWNER

Instructor Karl Ott founded Integrity Martial Arts and Fitness in October 2017. Mr. Ott was born and raised in Coos Bay, Oregon where he spent his early years, and graduated from Marshfield High School.  He went on to earn a Bachelors of Science degree in Computer Science from Southern Oregon University while playing football for four years.  Upon college graduation he found work in his field of education in Corvallis, Oregon.

Mr. Ott had a life-long interest in martial arts but growing up a 3-sport athlete didn't allow time to pursue studies in martial arts.  He decided now was the time.  After consulting a close family friend who was experienced in martial arts, he took the friend's advice and sought a martial arts instructor who was not just a good instructor, but one who was traditional and taught a omplete martial art lifestyle.  Answering an advertisement, he was given incorrect directions, and fate literally delivered him to  Grandmaster Shin's martial arts studio.  After a grueling interview by Grandmaster Shin, he knew he'd been in the wrong place for the advertisement, but in the right place to learn martial arts.  Mr. Ott has studied martial arts under Grandmaster Shin ever since that first meeting in March, 1993.  In October 2017, Mr. Ott took over Shin's Martial Arts Institute and founded Integrity Martial Arts and Fitness, LLC.

Instructor Ott's certifications are:

  - 4th Dan Taekwondo, Sun Moo Kwan
  - 4th Dan Taekwondo, US  TKD Grandmasters Society
  - 1st Dan Taekwondo, Kukkiwon
  - USA Taekwondo Level 1 Coach

Mr. Ott has coached at various national, international, state and local tournaments in sparring, poomsae and breaking resulting in 2 USAT National Champions, a 2-time US Open bronze medalist, Team USA Alternate and World Taekwondo President's Cup gold medalist.

ERICA ALIRE

INSTRUCTOR
Youth Empowerment Systems

Instructor Erica Alire began studying taekwondo when she was 8 years old. Originally, her parents enrolled her in class to expose her to self-defense, and believed that the confidence and discipline that often result from martial arts practice would be beneficial to her as she matured.  Erica continued to practice until her junior year in high school.  During her time studying taekwondo she developed a deep love of the art. She graduated from West Albany High School where she also competed in cross country and track.  In 2010, Erica earned a Bachelors degree in Accounting from Oregon State University.  She was very focused on her studies while in college and was away from martial arts for a few years, but her love for martial arts brought her back to Shin's Martial Arts Institute and she earned her 1st Dan black belt in December 2012.

Erica now enjoys competing in World Class Black belt sparring divisions in USA Taekwondo events as well as some local events.  Erica also leads our Youth Empowerment Systems classes.
